Vietnam Travel
With competition pretty stiff in Vietnam at present, first-class accommodation is refreshingly good value with five-star rooms often available for less than US$100 per night with patient negotiation. Cheaper, high-quality establishments offer rooms at around US$40-80 per night. Serviced apartments are viable option for longer staying guests and these are available on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis in both Hanoi and Saigon. Mid-range hotels also abound in both cities and the ubiquitous mini-hotel provides shelter for many visitors for around $10 to $25 per night. Cheaper "backpacker" accommodation abounds in most tourist destinations.
Levels of luxury still depend pretty much on the price you're willing to pay. That said, wherever you travel in Vietnam these days, you should be able to find accommodation of a reasonable standard without breaking the bank. From 1996 to present, a number of world-class resorts opened their doors for business in Nha Trang, Phan Thiet and Da Nang. In the same period, development of a chain of boutique tourist hotels owned and operated in some of the country's more remote destinations including Sa Pa, Can Tho, and elsewhere. Reservations are recommended at higher end hotels, and are often necessary elsewhere during high-season (September to December and June/July).
